Turning discarded fishing nets into a functional rowboat.
Using local waste to manufacture for local needs, on demand: a step toward a more sustainable, distributed, and responsible industry.
As part of the SuRF-LSAM project, RISE Research Institutes of Sweden printed a rowboat using PENYLON®, a material made from recycled fishing nets collected by Peniche Ocean Watch.
The use of AdaOne ensured optimal alignment between machine, process, and recycled material through the development of a dedicated manufacturing recipe, refining tool paths, parameters, and robotic kinematics; easily replicable across different geometries.
This application demonstrates how robotic manufacturing can transform locally recycled waste into functional, large-scale products, moving beyond recycling toward TriCycling.
