Carbon Steel Pressure Valve – by Vallourec for Naval Group

Naval Group‬ is exploring alternative sourcing routes for critical submarine components, including this carbon steel pressure valve—a dive safety device with strict quality and performance requirements; ‪Vallourec‬ successfully manufactured and inspected (US testing) the part using WAAM (Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing) technology.

The project required a detailed strategy to address challenges such as achieving precise geometry, ensuring material integrity, and meeting demanding mechanical performance standards. The production sequence further constrained the design and manufacturing process, necessitating advanced planning and execution. Vallourec used AdaOne for its customer Naval Group to define a deposition strategy capable of managing these complexities. The solution enabled full integration of the manufacturing process, from precise path generation to real-time monitoring during production. This approach ensured compliance with industrial standards and alignment with the stringent requirements of Naval Group’s specification translated into Vallourec’s quality plan.

The final part, after printing and machining, passed all NDT inspections and met the dimensional and material property standards essential for such a critical application. This achievement highlights the capability of WAAM technology, supported by ADAXIS software and support, to deliver reliable, high-performance solutions for advanced engineering challenges.
